Prejudice

Friday, August 30, 2013

So surprisingly enough, I didn't notice it so much, but I am such a judgemental person. I mean everyone is, to a certain limit, but I feel as though I've surpassed that limit. And I sincerely hope I'm not the only one.
Let me explain.
Have you ever walked into a room full of strangers and hid your own personality because you "knew" they would judge you?
I have.
Have you ever started saying something to realize that it wouldn't satisfy the person opposite to you and trailed off mid-sentence?
I have.
I become so quick to supposedly "empathize" with these people I rarely know anything about.
Which appears to be my form of prejudice. Empathy. Quite the oxymoron. Twisted, no?

Based off first impressions and body language, I sort people into different stereotypes that may or may not be well-known, and my actions sky rocket from there.
Despite all this supposed "prejudice" of mine, I'd estimate that about 80% of the time, I'm correct.
So why should I call it prejudice? Why not intuition?
Well, by Google's definition, intuition is the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
Sounds like prejudice to me.
Think about it. You can supposedly understand something "immediately" and "without conscious reasoning". Now, how do you plan on understanding this "something" immediately, unless you pass judgements unconsciously?
Passing judgement unconsciously, in my opinion, is a dandy definition for prejudice.
Do you see what I'm getting at? Do you understand why I think intuition is a form of prejudice?
So yeah, I suppose that's it for this post.

Remember: Intuition can be prejudice (according to me)
